I found this antique French book at a flea market recently. It wasn't even on display--the vendor was still unloading things from his truck, and I spied it from afar. It had some water damage, but was still in pretty good shape. From the date and feel of the paper, I think the pages may be made from cotton or linen rag.
I also discovered it was a geography book with--wait for it--fold-out maps. Yes, my heart skipped a beat when I saw them. A couple of the maps had been torn out, but there were quite a few still left.
And here is the inside of the book, well-worn, but with the cords still intact.
You can see the cords on the outside as well, where the cover has worn away. I told the nice French man who sold it to me that I would treasure it forever. And I will.
